The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is inviting up to 35 high school students to join the Vision Zero Youth Ambassador Program. This initiative provides teens with leadership skills and teaches them how to promote traffic safety in their communities.
Applications are open to public, private, and home-schooled students and will close at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 2. Participants can learn more and apply through the program’s online portal.
The program supports the County’s Vision Zero Initiative, which aims to eliminate severe traffic injuries and fatalities. Youth Ambassadors will work on safety projects and help the County achieve its zero-death goal.
Accepted applicants will attend a virtual orientation on Jan. 11 and five in-person Saturday sessions from February through May. Sessions will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Executive Office Building in Rockville.
Youth Ambassadors will develop a group safety project and host a Safety Day event to educate residents about safe walking, biking, and driving practices. They will earn up to 46 Student Service Learning (SSL) hours, with additional hours available for participating in outreach activities.
The program concludes in May 2025 with a graduation ceremony where students will present their projects and celebrate their achievements.
